This study aims to clarify the meanings and functional characteristics of quotative constructions ending in ‘-다' when combined with the marker ‘라고'. Existing research has presented conflicting views on this form, highlighting the need for a clearer understanding of the quotation marker's function and the nature of the quoted subjects. By analyzing speech, this study examines the syntactic features of ‘-다라고' quotative constructions. These constructions include quotation compound verbs and can reconstruct omitted quotation verbs from context. The quoted subjects primarily involve thoughts or cognition, often referring to abstract speech rather than explicit utterances. This study argues that ‘-다라고' constructions effectively quote the contents of abstract speech, thought, and cognition.
