- 42

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to analyse the impact of individuals’ levels of digital technology utilisation on self-efficacy and work efficiency among individuals in companies based in Japan. Additionally, it examines the moderating effects of perceived change-oriented leadership and the degree of in-house training on these relationships using regression analysis. Research design, data, and methodology: An online survey was conducted with employees from Japanese companies, and responses from a total of 312 participants were analysed using the SPSS statistical package. Results: The key findings are as follows: First, the level of digital technology utilisation positively impacts both self-efficacy and work efficiency. Second, change-oriented leadership serves as a positive moderator in the relationship between digital technology utilisation and both self-efficacy and work efficiency. Third, in-house support for enhancement of Digital Technology Utilisation Ability positively affects the relationship between digital technology utilisation and work efficiency. However, it was found that in-house support for enhancement of Digital Technology Utilisation Ability does not have a significant moderating impact on the relationship between digital technology utilisation and self-efficacy. Implications: This study demonstrates that high utilisation of digital technology enhances self-efficacy and work efficiency. It also emphasizes the necessity of change-oriented leadership and in-house support for enhancement of Digital Technology Utilisation Ability to achieve these outcomes. However, relying solely on in-house support for enhancement of Digital Technology Utilisation Ability has limitations in improving self-efficacy. While the in-house support is undoubtedly important for boosting work efficiency and enhancing digital technology use, it is essential to go beyond just providing training. The key factor would be supporting individuals in accumulating positive experiences through digital technology use. These findings have significant implications for developing strategies to secure long-term human resources and maintain competitiveness.
