China and South Korea are geographically proximate, as they are two of the major coastal countries in East Asia and key players in the region. The development of marine areas plays a crucial role in the economic growth of both countries. This research is based on game theory and employs a combined approach of static and dynamic game models to analyze the necessity of marine regional cooperation between China and South Korea. According to the static and dynamic game theory analysis respectively, it is suggested that China and South Korea should adopt a liberal policy for cooperation between two countries instead of a protectionist policy for their own interests, therefore strengthening marine regional collaboration would be mutually beneficial for both nations.
