This study is about the effect of diversity on China's FDI. By presenting the results of empirical analysis on the effects of ethnic, linguistic, and religious diversity on OFDI in China, the effect of diversity as an informal trade barrier and the direction of Chinese FDI were presented. While the share of China in world trade is gradually increasing, the existing Chinese FDI is changing from IFDI to OFDI. Accordingly, the need for research on diversity, an informal trade barrier affecting China's OFDI, is increasing. The majority of previous studies are based on China's IFDI with the viewpoint of affirming the effect of similarity on trade between countries. the difference of this article is that it presented the influence of ethnic, linguistic, and religious diversity on China's OFDI. 195 countries or regions on the “Foreign Direct Investment Flow Table” published by China's Ministry of Commerce's <Foreign Investment Enterprise (Institution) List> from 2011 to 2021 were selected to analyze ethnic, linguistic, religious diversity and foreign direct investment. We got the results of the analysis like this, it was confirmed that ethnic, linguistic, and religious diversity are all in a positive relationship with China's foreign direct investment. In addition, among the above three types of diversity, ethnic diversity has a greater impact than linguistic diversity and religious diversity. Unlike previous studies showing that high similarity between countries or regions activates exchanges by forming a trust network, China's OFDI has increased investment trade with greater diversity.
