Purpose - The goal of this study is to select and evaluate digital twin technology factors necessary for the efficient construction and operation of a smart city. To this end, selection factors for digital twin technology were derived using smart city-related literature research and expert interviews. Next, the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) was applied to set the main criteria and sub-criteria for digital twin technology, and evaluate the importance of the technology according to each standard. Design/methodology/approach - This study conducted interviews with smart city and digital twin technology experts to derive key elements of smart city digital twin technology and analyzed the priorities of factors by applying the AHP methodology. Findings - In the selection and evaluation of digital twin technology for building a smart city, the main criteria were Technical Efficiency, Economic Viability, User and Social Acceptability, Sustainability, and Security & Data Management. Through this, you can evaluate the importance of each technology and ultimately select the most appropriate technology combination for the smart city project. Research implications or Originality - It is expected that more effective technology selection and resource allocation will be possible by identifying important criteria and sub-criteria in selecting digital twin technology for smart cities and presenting a systematic method to evaluate the importance of each technology. Additionally, this study provides basic data that can contribute to the integrated evaluation and policy establishment of future smart city technologies.
