Estimating the Expenditure and Price Elasticity using AIDS

본 연구는 AIDS를 추정하여 소비품목별 지출탄력성과 가격탄력성을 추정하였다. 추정결과에 따르면 식료품·비주류음료의 경우 소비자이론에 부합하는 지출탄력성과 가격탄력성을 얻었다. 식료품·비주류음료의 경우 지출탄력성 추정치는 0.702이므로 필수재임을 알 수 있고, 가격탄력성 추정치는 -0.582로 수요의 법칙에 부합한다. 하지만 다른 소비 품목의 경우 유의하지 않거나 지출탄력성과 가격탄력성이 소비자이론에 부합하지 않았다. 이러한 결과는 식료품 지출자료의 경우 향후 연구에서 유용하게 활용될 수 있음을 시사하는 것이다.

This study estimated AIDS and obtained expenditure elasticity and price elasticity by consumption item. According to the estimation results, expenditure elasticity and price elasticity were obtained in accordance with consumer theory in the case of food and non-alcoholic beverages. In the case of food and non-alcoholic beverages, the expenditure elasticity estimate was 0.702, indicating that they are necessities, and the price elasticity estimate was -0.582, which conforms to the law of demand. However, in the case of other consumption items, the expenditure elasticity and price elasticity were insignificant or did not conform to consumer theory. These results suggest that food expenditure data can be usefully utilized in future studies.
