초기철기시대~삼국시대 장병기의 변천과 배경

Changes and Background in the long spear of the Early Iron Age~Three Kingdoms Period

고대 동아시아 전쟁에서 빈번하게 사용된 무기 가운데 하나로 장병기를 들 수 있다. 이 글에서는 초기철기시대부터 삼국시대까지 한반도 중남부지역에서 출토된 장병기를 분석하고 그 변천 과정에 대해 살펴보았다. 한반도에서는 초기철기시대에 처음으로 장병기가 등장한다. 나무 자루 한쪽에 동과나 동모를 장착한 초기철기시대 장병기는 150㎝ 내외로 그 길이가 비교적 짧았다. 서기전 5~4세기 요서의 십이대영자문화를 중심으로 등장한 동모, 동과가 세형동검문화를 통해 확산하는 과정에서 한반도에도 처음으로 장병기가 출현하였을 것이다. 원삼국시대가 되면 동모, 동과는 철모, 철과로 재질이 전환되고 동시에 원추형 물미가 출현하는 데 그 길이는 여전히 2m가 채 되지 않는다. 새로운 재질과 조합의 장병기가 출현한 배경에는 낙랑을 경유한 漢⽂化의 확산을 고려하는 것이 바람직하다. 성인 키 정도의 길이에 비교적 단순한 조합이었던 선·원사시대의 장병기는 삼국시대에 들어 그 형태가 다양화된다. 김해, 부산을 중심으로 왜와 관련된 장병기가 출현하며 5세기 이후에는 400~500㎝에 달해 실전에 오히려 불리할 것으로 생각되는 장병기도 등장한다. 또 살상의 목적과는 동떨어진 장식철모와 반부가 부착된 철모(물미)도 제작되며 유자이기-물미와 같은 새로운 조합관계도 확인된다. 6세기 이후 길이를 알 수 있는 장병기의 사례는 급감하는데 이는 묘제 변화, 박장, 화장과 같은 매장 관습의 변화와 관련된다. 다만 통일신라시대 출토품을 비롯하여 전쟁 관련 기사를 고려하면 6세기 이후에도 한반도 전쟁에서 장병기는 지속된 것으로 보는 것이 타당하다.

In the ancient East Asian War, long spear were frequently used. In this study, long spear excavated from the Korean Peninsula from the early Iron Age to the Three Kingdoms period were analyzed and their transformation was examined. Long spear appear for the first time on the Korean Peninsula during the early Iron Age. Long spear equipped with copper weapons combined with wooden rods may have first appeared on the Korean Peninsula in the 5th and 4th centuries BC during the spread of Chinese bronze weapon culture. In the Proto-Three Kingdoms Period, the material of Long spear turns into iron, and iron ferrule appears. As a background, it is desirable to consider the spread of Han(漢) culture through Nakrang. In the Three Kingdoms Period, the types of Long spear become diverse. Long spear related to Ancient Japan(倭) appear mainly in Gim-hae and Bu-san, and long spear ranging from 400 to 500 centimeters also appear in the 5th century. In addition, decorative Long spear that are not aimed at killing are also produced, and new combinations such as iron barbed implement(有刺利器)-iron ferrule are also confirmed. Since the 6th century, the number of Long spear whose length can be known has dropped sharply, which is related to changes in burial customs such as burial and cremation. However, considering war-related articles, including excavations from the Unified Silla Dynasty, it can be seen that Long spear were continuously used in the Korean Peninsula war even after the 6th century.
