컬포츠(Culports) 융합 교육에 관한 탐색적 연구

Exploratory Study on the Education Integrating Culports Approach

컬포츠(culports^culture+sports) 교육은 유·무형의 문화유산, 놀이와 스포츠 등과 교육적 요소를 융합해 접근하는 체험형 학습 프로그램을 의미한다. 초기 연 구에서는 고고문화 유적을 컬포츠 소재로 활용해 왔으나, 그 적용 범위가 점차 교 육 영역 전반으로 확산되는 흐름을 보인다. 코로나19 사태 이후 사교육 수요 증가, 지역간 교육격차 확대 등의 문제가 대두되면서 컬포츠를 소재로 활용한 교수 및 학 습모델이 새로운 대안으로 인식되고 있다. 컬포츠 기반의 교육 접근이 학교 교과 과정과 유기적으로 결합하면, 전통적 교실수업의 단점을 보완하는 상호보완성을 기대할 수 있다. 컬포츠의 적용 가능성을 탐구하는 연구들은 컬포츠 기반의 융합 콘텐츠를 개발해 초등 및 중등 ‘방과후학교’ 교과과정에 적용하면, 학습의 자기 주 도성을 높이는 데 기여할 수 있다는 결과를 내놓았다. 본 연구는 컬포츠의 적용 가 능성에 대한 선행연구를 통해 교육적 특성을 고찰하고, 컬포츠와 정규 교과과정을 융합할 수 있는 이론적 토대를 구축하는 데 있다. 특히, 영어교육의 관점에서 컬포 츠 소재를 활용한 교수 및 학습모델을 개발하였다. 연구 결과, 컬포츠 기반의 영어 교육 프로그램은 방과후학교의 자기 주도 학습을 촉진시키고, 수준별 심화학습이 가능한 교육적 특성을 보였다. 본 연구는 컬포츠의 적용 가능성을 영어, 수학, 국어 등 정규 교과과정 전반으로 넓힐 필요가 있다고 강조한다.

Culports (culture+sports) education refers to experiential learning approaches that incorporate tangible and intangible cultural heritage, play, and sports into educational elements. The Culports education is being recognized as a new alternative approach to the models of teaching and learning as a public educational system is pushed out by increasing demand for private education and widening educational disparities between regions after COVID-19. In this aspect, if practitioners are able to integrate Culports-based educational approaches with school curricula, it is possible to expect mutual interaction that overcomes the shortcomings of traditional classroom teaching. A course of studies exploring the potential of Culports have shown that development of the integrated content based on Culports and its application to after-school programs at elementary and middle schools can enhance self-directed learning. The current study tried to establish a theoretical basis for integrating Culports with regular curricula by reviewing previous research and thus to explore its application to English education. The results showed that Culports-based English programs could promote self-directed learning in after-school programs in various ways. From the perspective of English education, this study suggests the way to develop Culports model of teaching and learning.
