A Study on a learner-friendly English class at college for work-study adult students

With the rapid decline of the school-age population, universities are being asked to adopt a lifelong education (LiFE) system. In order for lifelong education to succeed, not only national support but also various discussions and efforts within universities, which are the sites of actual education, must be supported. As part of these efforts, they have to pay attention to not only the characteristics of work-study students but also their needs and opinions related to English learning. This study was designed to find these factors to help offer learner-friendly college English programs at 4-year adult college. To do this, two sets of questionnaires were used to collect the data: one at the beginning of the semester and the other at the end of the semester. The research was implemented for 15 weeks with 80 college students. The specific research questions set up for the research purpose are as follows; 1) What are the beliefs of freshmen in English language? 2) What are the needs for college English classes? 3) What are the obstacles to learning English as work-study college students? Based on the results, some suggestions are made for effective English classes at 4-year adult college for work-study learners.
