1950년대 샹소니에 작품에 내재된 민중시적 특징 고찰

An Examination of the People's Poetry Characteristics in the Works of 1950s Chansonniers

본 논문은 1950년대 샹소니에 작품의 가사를 분석하여 당시 샹소니에 작품에 내재된 민중시적 특징을 고찰하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 1950년대 음반을 발매한 샹소니에 조르주 브라센스, 자크 브렐, 보리스 비앙, 레오 페레 등 4인을 선정하여 당대 샹소니에 작품의 경향과 민중시적 특징을 분석하였다. 제2차 세계대전 종전 이후 유럽 전역은 전쟁의 영향으로 인해 대규모 인명 피해와 물질적 피해를 입었으며, 이는 사회적 안정에 있어 중대한 장애 요인으로 작용하였다. 당대의 예술가와 작가들은 작품을 통해 전쟁의 참상과 인간 존재의 고뇌를 묘사하였고, 당대의 샹소니에는 서민 대중의 삶과 경험, 욕구와 욕망을 작품 속에 담아내었다. 민중시적 특징으로는 전후 불안정한 사회 속에서 기층민의 궁핍한 삶과 고난을 사실적으로 묘사한 핍진성과 사랑과 자유에 대한 열망이 두드러지게 나타났으며, 급격한 산업화에 따른 사회적 함의를 다루었다. 본 연구는 이러한 민중시적 특징을 고찰함으로써, 1950년대 샹소니에가 작품을 활용하여 사회적 참여를 실천하였음을 규명하였다.

This study aims to analyze the lyrics of chanson songs from the 1950s in order to examine the populist characteristics inherent in the works of the period. For this purpose, four chanson artists—Georges Brassens, Jacques Brel, Boris Vian, and Léo Ferré—who released albums during the 1950s, are selected for the analysis of prevailing trends and populist features in their compositions. In the aftermath of World War II, Europe experienced widespread human and material losses, which posed significant barriers to social stability. Artists and writers of the time depicted the horrors of war and the existential struggles of humanity through their works. Chanson songs of this era, in turn, captured the lives, experiences, desires, and aspirations of the working class, reflecting the socio-economic realities of ordinary people. The populist characteristics of these chansons are evident in their realistic portrayals of the impoverished and difficult lives of the lower classes in an unstable post-war society, as well as in their expressions of yearning for love and freedom. Furthermore, the societal implications of rapid industrialization were also addressed. By investigating these populist features, this study demonstrates how chanson songs of the 1950s functioned as a form of social engagement, using artistic expression to reflect and critique the social issues of the time.
