경와 김휴의 시세계 일고찰

A Study on the Poetic World of Kyungwa(敬窩) KimHyu(金烋)

본고는 敬窩 金烋(1597~1638)의 시를 통해 그의 삶과 시세계를 살펴본 연구이다. 김휴는 퇴계학을 계승한 가학의 토대 위에 혼인 뒤에는 경암 노경임･여헌 장현광에게 수학하면서 학문적 외연을 넓혔다. 15세 향시에 합격하고, 31세 진사시에 입격하는 등 뛰어난 학문 수준을 가지고 있었으나, 그는 초야에서 지식인으로서의 삶을 지향하였다. 경와의 시는 스승에 대한 존모, 안빈낙도의 삶 추구, 千古聖을 통한 학문 성취의 세 가지 주제로 살펴보았다. ‘스승에 대한 존모’에서는 장현광에 대한 존모의 심정을 담은 시를위주로 살펴보았다. ‘안빈낙도의 삶 추구’에서는 가학과 사우를 통해 수학한 경와가 지향한 삶의 모습을 시를 통해 알아본 것이다. ‘千古聖을 통한 학문 성취’에서는 안빈낙도하는 삶 속에서 경와가 즐기고자 했던 도의 소재와 그 실체를 파악하였다. 경와가 남긴 450여 수가 넘는 시 속에는 당대 사회에 대해 비판하고 백성의 삶을 위무하는 사회시나 애민시가 보이지 않는 것이 특징 중 하나라고 할 수 있다. 사회 비판과 애민 정신은 위정자가 갖추어야 할 덕목으로, 학자로서의 삶을 지향한 경와가 자신의 경계를 정확히 파악하고 있었다는 반증이기도 하다.

This paper is a study that examines the life and poetic world of Kyeongwa(敬窩) KimHyu(金烋) through his poetry. KimHyu, who inherited the Toegyehak(退溪學), expanded his academic horizon after marriage by studying under Gyeongam(敬菴) No Gyeong-im(盧景任) and Yeoheon(旅軒) Jang Hyeon-gwang(張顯光). He demonstrated exceptional academic ability by passing the local examination at the age of 15 and the Jìnshìshi(進士試) at 31. However, he chose to live the life of an intellectual in seclusion. Kyeongwa's poetry is explored through three themes: reverence for Susung(Korean's traditional teacher), the pursuit of a life of ‘Anbinnakdo (安貧樂道, being content amid poverty and taking pleasure in acting in an honest way)’, and the academic achievement inspired by the ancient Confucian schola(千古聖). In “Reverence for Susung,” the focus is on poems that express his admiration for Jang Hyeon-gwang(張顯光). In “The Pursuit of a Life of Anbinnakdo,” the study examines the life Kyeongwa aspired to through his family learning and his relationship between mentor and disciple. “Academic achievement inspired by the ancient Confucian schola(千古聖)” explores the essence and material of the Tao that Kyeongwa sought to enjoy in his life of simplicity. One notable feature of the more than 450 poems left by Kyeongwa is the absence of social or compassionate poetry that criticizes the society of his time or consoles the lives of the people. Social criticism and compassion for the people are virtues that a statesman should possess, indicating that Kyeongwa, who aspired to live as a scholar, clearly understood his boundaries.
