This study investigates the distinct challenges and demands associated with composing theses and dissertations within the domain of English for Specific Purposes (ESP). While ESP dissertations exhibit structural parallels with general academic works, they are designed to address particular professional or academic objectives, focusing on practical applications such as aviation or medical English. These specialized aims require unique approaches to purpose, audience engagement, structure, and methodology. Employing a genre analysis framework, the study highlights critical distinctions between ESP and conventional dissertations, including their audience specificity, practical focus, and the necessity for precise and effective language. Additionally, it explores the unique linguistic, cultural, and genre-related obstacles encountered by second-language (L2) authors, such as critically analyzing prior research, following citation standards, and presenting coherent and logical arguments. The research emphasizes the need for tailored support mechanisms for L2 authors, including structured writing programs, genre-specific education, and collaborative learning initiatives. By addressing these challenges, the study provides actionable strategies to support ESP dissertation writers and improve their capacity to deliver impactful academic contributions. Future studies are encouraged to develop customized writing frameworks that consider diverse cultural and academic backgrounds, contributing to the refinement of ESP academic writing practices.
