Background/Objectives: This study aimed to identify residents' preference for space planning with hygienic elements in the entrance plan of apartments during the COVID-19 pandemic and to suggest the direction of apartment entrance planning for the management and prevention of infectious diseases. Methods: A questionnaire survey based on the planning characteristics derived from the apartment entrance floor plan cases was conducted on 230 housewives living in apartments with a dedicated area of 85m² or less located in the metropolitan area. Results: First, in terms of the shape of the entrance part, the residents preferred a rectangular shape including a pantry-type entrance cabinet or a hybrid type that allowed storage space to be used flexibly. Second, there was a high preference for the semiclosed type, which enters the living room in a curved form, rather than the open layout. Third, residents preferred to quickly remove and block contaminants rather than spending a long time washing and drying at the front door. Conclusion/Implications: The research results derived from this study, can be employed as basic data for apartment unit planning that can improve satisfaction while ensuring the safety and health of residents by applying a specialized design for responding to infectious diseases by construction companies.
