A Study on the Design Proposal for a Hybrid Cat Wheel-Tower for Companion Cats

Residential furniture is predominantly designed with human needs in mind, often overlooking how these designs might be inconvenient or even hazardous for cats. Cats can experience stress and anxiety due to territorial instincts and hierarchical dynamics with other animals, creating a need for environments that support natural behaviors such as vertical movement and play. Engaging in these activities can relieve stress and satisfy a cat’s innate curiosity. This study, drawing on prior research into pet characteristics, introduces a mixed cat wheel tower design to promote emotional stability and stress relief for cats living alongside their owners. By combining a cat tower and cat wheel, this design optimizes space for both cats and their owners, offering enhanced efficiency and safety. Additionally, it functions as an aesthetically pleasing addition to the home, enriching the cat’s living environment while supporting its physical health and emotional well-being. The “Mixed Cat Wheel Tower” is purpose-built for cats, featuring geometric rectangular and circular forms. This structured simplicity reduces visual clutter, delivering a clear and stable look that fits seamlessly into modern residential interiors. By catering to the spatial and emotional needs of cats, this design offers a harmonious, functional solution that enhances both the comfort and aesthetics of shared living spaces.
