This paper is a study on the design of a headboard that realizes the reclining function through non-mechanical structural design. As modern lifestyles have changed, the bedroom has become more than just a place to sleep, but a space that supports a variety of activities such as reading, watching TV, and engaging in hobbies. Therefore, this researcher aims to develop a product that satisfies both user convenience and product durability by realizing the reclining function through structural design without steel hardware or motorized devices. First, we studied reclining furniture through theoretical considerations and investigated previous cases. Then, in the design study, we realized the reclining mechanism by utilizing the height difference between the headboard and mattress without any additional hardware. The connection between the headboard cushion and the frame is designed to be easily removable through a zipper for easy maintenance and replacement. In addition, a non-slip material was used to prevent the cushion from slipping, which enhanced the sense of stability. The research proved that the reclining function can be realized through a non-mechanical structural design, providing an effective way to secure structural stability and aesthetics at the same time. In addition, by eliminating steel hardware and motorized devices, production costs can be reduced, making the product more competitive in price. This structural design represents a new direction for reclining furniture and can be considered an innovative approach that enhances user-centered comfort. The studied product has the advantages of cost savings, safety, convenience, and convenience compared to products using hardware, and the headboard thickness is small, so it takes up less space. More importantly, it is encouraging to see that it compensates for the shortcomings of steel hardware, such as lack of durability and noise problems. In the future, the results of this study can be used as a reference for the design of various reclining furniture, not only beds, and are expected to contribute to expanding the possibilities of reclining functions through structural design.
