Study on Furniture Design Trends During the COVID-19 Pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic brought significant changes to individuals' lifestyles and various industries worldwide, and the furniture design industry was no exception. This study aims to analyze the major trends in furniture design that emerged during the COVID-19 era and to examine these changes. As remote work and online classes became routine due to the pandemic, the demand for home office furniture surged, highlighting the importance of ergonomic design and multifunctional furniture. Increased concern for hygiene and health led to a focus on antimicrobial materials and easy-to-clean designs, while furniture made from eco-friendly and sustainable materials gained popularity. Additionally, the expansion of online shopping and customized furniture services enhanced the sales channels and consumer satisfaction within the furniture industry. This study comprehensively analyzes these changes to propose furniture design directions suitable for the new lifestyle post-COVID-19, thereby contributing to the sustainable development and innovation of the furniture design industry.
