중학생 또래 관계에서 소셜미디어 이용 의미와 교육적 함의 탐색

Exploring the meaning and educational implications of social media use in middle school student peer relationships

본 연구에서는 중학생의 소셜미디어 사용의 특성을 탐색하고, 이 특성이 이들 또래 관계에서 어떠한 의미가 있는지를 탐색하고자 하며, 이를 통해서 교육적 함의를 찾아보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 6명의 중학생과 개별로 심층면담을 진행하여 자료수집을 하였고 이를 분석하였다. 그 결과 중학생들의 소셜미디어의 사용은 또래관계에서 즐거운 의사소통을 가능하게 하는 놀이적 요소를 부가하도록 하였고, 또래와 함께한 시간을 콘텐츠로 남기면서 또래관계를 강화하도록 하였으며, 교사와 부모가 접근할 수 없는 온라인의 틀을 마련하는 역할을 하였다. 본 연구결과를 바탕으로 학생들은 소셜미디어를 사용하면서 또래와 유사성을 찾아가는 과정을 거치고, 소셜미디어가 또래와의 문화를 생성하는 공간이 되고 있음이 드러났다. 이상의 연구결과를 바탕으로 한 교육적 함의는 첫째, 학교에서 원활한 또래관계와 공동체 활동 강화를 위한 다양한 환경 마련이 필요하고, 둘째, 소셜미디어 활동에서 나타나는 빈번한 참여구조와 참여패턴을 교육적으로 활용할 필요가 있으며, 셋째, 엔터테인먼트적 요소를 적극적으로 교육현장에 도입할 필요가 있다는 것이다. 본 연구는 중학생의 또래 관계에서 소셜미디어 이용의 의미를 질적으로 탐색하여 살펴봤다는 점에서 그 의의를 찾을 수 있을 것이다. 다만, 부산에 거주하는 중학생들로 연구참여자 수가 적으며 비교적 단기간에 진행된 연구로 그들의 또래 관계의 변화를 관찰하지 못했다는 한계를 가진다.

In this study, we sought to explore the characteristics of middle school students' social media use, explore what meaning these characteristics have in their peer relationships, and seek educational implications through this. As a result, middle school students' use of social media was designed to (1) incorporate playful elements that enable enjoyable communication in peer relationships, (2) strengthen peer relationships by recording the time spent with peers as content, and 3) teachers. It played a role in establishing an online framework that parents could not access. According to the discussion based on the results of this study, middle school students were going through the process of finding similarities with their peers while using social media, and social media was becoming a space to create a culture with peers. Educational implications based on the above research results are: (1) it is necessary to provide various environments in schools to promote smooth peer relationships and strengthen community activities. (2) there is a need to make educational use of the frequent participation structures and participation patterns that appear in social media activities. (3) there is a need to actively introduce entertainment elements into the educational field. The significance of this study can be found in that it qualitatively explored and examined the meaning of social media use in middle school students' peer relationships.
