As of July 2024, the National Court Administration of the Supreme Court of Korea launched the Court Interpretation Center to provide remote court interpreting services. Building upon previous research on remote interpreting, this study examines the benefits and challenges of remote court interpreting through a survey of professional interpreters who are actively practicing remote court interpreting in the U.S., the U.K., Canada, New Zealand, and Australia. The survey reveals six benefits: significant time savings, improved focus, reduced external distractions, increased access for a broader range of users, reduced emotional stress, and comfortable working attire. It also identifies six challenges: technical difficulties, sound quality issues, and limited visual cues. Additional concerns include a lack of trial information typically accessible in a face-to-face setting, limited control over the speaking pace of participants, and privacy risks. The findings suggest that remote court interpreting will flourish as technical advances are made.
