This study explores the power of narratives in fostering self-awareness and empathy (social awareness) as a crucial component of emotional education within the framework of cognitive science. The introduction highlights the importance of emotions and Social Emotional Learning (SEL), as well as the potential of narratives in emotional education. The second chapter delves into the cognitive science foundation of narratives, explaining how story worlds and situation models enhance empathy and self-awareness in readers through narratives. Additionally, it examines how narratives utilize human reasoning abilities to connect personal experiences with others’ stories. The third chapter demonstrates, through concrete examples, how narrative-based emotional education effectively cultivates not only self-awareness and social awareness but also emotional granularity. The conclusion discusses the potential of narratives as a core tool for emotional education and suggests that, particularly in English education, narrative-based approaches can help students integrate language and emotional learning. This integration enables students to develop empathy and communication skills, fostering their growth as global citizens.
