This study aims to explore how to assess narratives in the context of the English section of Korea’s College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT), reflecting the broader trend in literature education that values and encourages learners’ responses. To this end, the study systematically classifies narrative question types and provides relevant examples, suggesting directions for the evolution of narrative questions in the CSAT English section. Specifically, it examines how restructuring the narrative question types of the current CSAT─sentiment-related questions and three-question formats with one short narrative─can better incorporate aesthetic sensitivity and creative thinking. In this process, the study categorizes narrative evaluation question types into nine types, based on distinguishing factual understanding and emotional response, while providing examples for each type and discussing considerations for developing new narrative evaluation question types.
