서번트 증후군을 지닌 자폐성장애인의 특별한 재능 특성과 개인차 변인에 따른 재능 정도와 영역 분석

Savant Skills of Individuals with ASD and Savant Syndrome and Differences based on Demographic Variables

본 연구는 서번트증후군을 지닌 자폐성장애인의 서번트 기술의 정도와 영역을 포함한 일반적인 특성을 살펴보고 특별한 재능 정도와 영역이 개인차 변인에 따라 어떠한 차이가 있는지를 살펴보는 것을 목적으로 이루어졌다. 이러한 연구 목적을 위해 특별한 재능을 지닌 자폐성장애 자녀를 양육한 부모와 교육 및 치료 전문가 121명을 대상으로 설문 조사를 실시하였다. 연구결과 서번트 기술의 정도는 비범하고 탁월한 재능, 뛰어난 재능, 스프린터 스킬 순으로 나타났다. 특별한 재능 영역에서는 뛰어난 기억력, 미술, 음악 영역을 포함한 총 9개 영역에서 재능이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 특별한 재능이 일상생활에 미치는 영향으로는 발달과 학업, 진로에는 도움이 되는 것으로 응답하였다. 그러나 사회적 상호작용에는 긍정적인 영향과 부정적인 영향이 모두 있는 것으로 응답하였다. 특별한 재능의 정도는 자폐성장애 정도와 연령에 따른 집단간에는 차이가 없었으나, 지적능력과 의사소통 수준에 따라서는 유의한 차이가 있었다. 특별한 재능 영역에서는 자폐성장애 정도, 연령, 지적능력과 의사소통 수준 등의 개인차 변인에 따른 집단간 차이가 없었다. 이러한 연구 결과에 근거하여 자폐성장애인의 특별한 재능 정도와 영역을 포함한 일반적인 특성과 개인차 변인에 따른 차이에 대해 논의하였다.

The first objective of this study was to investigate the degree, type, and general characteristics of savant skills in individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder(ASD) and Savant Syndrome. The second objective was to examine how the degree and type of savant skills differed based on individual factors. To achieve these objectives, a survey was conducted with 121 parents and educational professionals. The findings indicated that savant skills appeared on a spectrum varying from prodigious to talented abilities and splinter skills. These skills spanned nine diverse domains, including extraordinary memory, art, and music. The effect of special talent on daily life is generally helpful for development, academics, and career paths. However, responses from survey participants regarding the impact on social interactions were ambivalent. No significant differences were found in the degree of savant skills based on age or the severity of autism. However, significant differences were observed in intellectual abilities and communication levels. Additionally, no significant differences in savant skill domains were found based on the severity of autism, age, intellectual ability, or communication level. Based on the research results, the general characteristics of savant skills, including their degree, domains, and differences according to individual factors, are discussed herein.
