ChatGPT를 활용한 번역과 문법 학습에 관한 비교 연구

Comparative Study on Translation and Grammar Learning using ChatGPT

Unlike free automated translators, ChatGPT has started to provide immediate feeback to learners and the educational field also found that ChatGPT can provide potential supplementary tool for English as a Foreign Language (EFL). Previous studies also revealed that ChatGPT can not only detect errors, provide interactive space for the learners, but can also provide self-study and meaningful grammar learning by both using ChatGPT and translation method. As a follow-up study, this paper aimed to see whether this method could provide effective self-study tool for learners. The control group used the conventional method, while the experimental group used ChatGPT for translation to receive meaningful sentences other than just memorizing or rote exercises. Both groups’ scores improved at the end of the experiment. Further research was conducted to determine whether interactions existed among the variables included in this research. Findings suggest that even if scores improved in all groups, if autonomous learning is achieved through ChatGPT, it can have better effect on EFL learners. As we would sooner or later utilize interactive artificial intelligence to our learning environment, it would be important to present a more effective learning models to learners.
