This study examines the significance of translation education as a liberal arts subject, distinct from professional training, and provides foundational data for the inclusion of a translation course in the liberal arts curriculum of elementary teacher education programs. An online survey was conducted with first-year students at G University of Education to assess the demand for establishing and operating a translation course as part of the liberal arts curriculum. Based on the survey results, implications for the course development are discussed. The translation course is valuable for cultivating humanistic thinking, enhancing Korean language proficiency, and fostering cultural communication skills. It also offers non-translation majors opportunities to explore potential career paths and improve their professional competitiveness. This research is significant because it demonstrates the validity of introducing a translation course into the liberal arts curriculum for elementary education majors, based on student demand. This, in turn, contributes to the diversification of the curriculum.
