This paper examines the Korean translation of How the United Nations Works, translated by the Office of Civil Information in 1948. The study analyzes why this text was chosen for translation, as well as the macro-level and the paratextual translation strategies. The analysis reveals that the OCI selected a text that explained the UN in an accessible manner, accompanied by illustrations, and selectively translated only the content that emphasized the UN's democratic and fair decision-making processes, portraying the organization as contributing to global peace. Additionally, the study discusses how image translation was used to enhance understanding of the UN while positioning the book within the context of the UN's decision to hold the separate election in the southern part of the Korean Peninsula. This served to justify the UN's actions that led to the division of Korea. Through this translation, the US tried to mitigate negative perceptions of the UN among Koreans and to maintain its influence over South Korea.
