성인의 외현적 자기애와 내현적 자기애가 대인관계 문제에 미치는 영향: 정신화의 매개효과

Effects of Covert and Overt Narcissism on Interpersonal Problems in Adults: The Mediating Roles of Mentalization

목적 본 연구는 성인의 외현적, 내현적 자기애성향과 대인관계 문제 사이에서 정신화의 매개효과를 탐색하고, 자기애성향에 따른 정신화 능력의 차이를 알아보고자 하였다. 방법 전국 만 18세 이상 성인을 대상으로 자기애적 성격장애 척도(NPDS), 내현적 자기애 척도(CNS), 재구성 정신화 척도, 한국판 대인관계 문제 원형 척도(III-C)를 실시하였고, 450부를 분석에 사용하였다. SPSS와 PROCESS Macro 프로그램을 사용하여 기술통계, 상관분석, 위계적 회귀분석, 일원배치 분산분석을 실시하였다. 결과 첫째, 외현적, 내현적 자기애성향과 정신화 실패, 대인관계 문제는 서로 정적 상관을 보였다. 둘째, 정신화 실패가 외현적, 내현적 자기애성향과 대인관계 문제를 부분 매개하는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 내현적 자기애 집단에서 전반적인 정신화 실패, 자기성찰 거부, 정서자각 실패 및 정신적 동등성 모드가 높았고, 외현적 자기애 집단은 목적론적 모드가 높게 나타났다. 결론 외현적, 내현적 자기애성향의 대인관계 문제에 있어 정신화의 영향을 보여주며, 자기애성향에 따라 정신화를 촉진하기 위한 상담 개입 방향을 제안하였다.

Objectives This study examines the mediating effect of mentalization on the interpersonal problems of narcissistic individuals, as well as the differences in mentalization and interpersonal problems between covert narcissists and overt narcissists. Methods 450 samples were asked to complete the questionnaires of Narcissistic Personality Disorder Scale (NPDS), Covert Narcissism Scale(CNS), Mentalization Questionnaire, and Inventory of Interpersonal Problems- Circumplex(IIP-C). Results The major finding of this study can be summarized as follows. First, covert narcissists and overt narcissists and interpersonal problems was positively associated with failure of mentalization. Second, mentalization showed the statistically significant partial mediation effect between covert narcissists and overt narcissists on interpersonal problems. Third, groups with higher covert narcissistic showed a lower mentalization(refusing self-reflection, failure of emotional awareness, higher psychic equivalence mode) than overt narcissistic group and the non-narcissistic group. And groups with higher overt narcissistic showed higher teleological mode than the non-narcissistic group. Conclusions The results of this study confirmed the role of mentalization in the interpersonal problems of covert and overt narcissists. Through this, effective therapeutic interventions which are based on covert and overt narcissists were suggested.
