Evaluation of Drug Safety and Patient Safety Competency Improvement of Participants in Pharmacy Administration Practice at the Regional Patient and Drug Safety center of the Korean Pharmaceutical Association

This study was conducted to evaluate patient safety management and adverse drug case reporting capabilities provided by the Regional Patient and Drug Safety center of the Korean Pharmaceutical Association. Participants in the practical training for pharmacy school students provided from 2014 to 2023 were used as the experimental group, and the Inje University Department of Pharmacy was selected as the experimental group. A survey was conducted using a staticgroup comparison design in which 5th and 6th year college students were randomly selected as the control group. As a result of conducting a t-test to see whether there was a difference in scores in competency levels between the experimental group and the control group that completed practical training, the results showed that, excluding 'communication' competency, 'knowledge of adverse drug cases', 'awareness of adverse drug cases' and Overall, the experimental group showed statistically significantly higher competency scores than the control group in the areas of 'reporting', 'knowledge of patient safety accidents', and 'recognition and reporting of patient safety accidents'. There appeared to be no difference in communication competency regarding drug adverse events and patient safety accidents between the participating and non-participating groups. There is a need for institutional support to promote communication.
