The Vietnam’s Central Communist Party issued a resolution No.08-NQ/TW in 2017 to develop the national tourism to be a spearhead industry and a leading economic sector in the vision 2030. In 2019, this country recorded the highest number of international visitors, more than 18 million. After three years of recession due to the global Covid pandemic outbreak, the sector is on the way of recovery and re-structured with positive potentials. This keynote speech will describe some outstanding achievements of Vietnam’s tourism industry along with a brief analysis of the strengths and weakness of the local sector, using some theories of travel and hospitality management as well as cultural components and sustainable development. Noticeably, the most popular key elements of attractiveness of Vietnam’s destinations are the spectacular and scenic landscapes, combining with the charming and authentic cultural traditions. The paper would also discuss some strategic planning models for Vietnam country as well as similar developing countries in Southeast Asia.
