Analysis of Forearm Muscle Activity on Electromyogram During Calculus Removal and Its Relationship with Physical Conditions

Objectives: In this study, we quantitatively identified the forearm muscle movement of dental hygienists during calculus removal for each tooth part using hand tools and how the general characteristics of the subjects relate to the muscle activity that occurs in the forearm. Methods: In December 2023, 22 fourth-grade students in the Department of Dental Hygiene at D University in Busan were enrolled and an electromyogram was performed. Data were analyzed using SPSS. Results: In terms of size, the flexor digitorum superficialis muscle was statistically bigger in the #20s (F=2.979, p=0.49). Conclusions: Measures should be taken to prevent musculoskeletal diseases of dental hygienists.
