근대전환기 강우지역은 남명학·퇴계학·노사학·간재학·성재학·한주학·화서학 등 다양한 학문이 통섭된 공간이었다. 그리고 그 중심에 회봉 하겸진이라는 인물이 있었다. 그는 가학으로 계승된 남명학의 토양 위에 퇴계학의 뿌리를 내리고 지역의 유림을 통솔하는 견인차 역할을 하였다. ｢덕곡사우연원록｣에 수록된 227인의 인물이 그것을 말해주고 있다. ｢덕곡사우연원록｣에 수록된 사우는 회봉 시대의 선각자였고, 그와 종유했던 인물들은 모두 시대적 고난을 함께 타개하고자 고민하며 지식인으로서의 도덕적, 사회적 책무를 다하고자 했던 인물들이다. 그리고 급문인과 문인은 유학적 학풍이 현대까지 어떻게 계승되었는지를 보여주며, 오늘날을 사는 지역 문화의 所從來가 어디였는지 인식하도록 해준다.

The intimate study of each person will serve as a basic data for revealing the trends of intellectuals in the rainwater region and the various cultural activities and transitions in the future.
