김정은 연설문에 나타난 애민정치: 정당화 전략 분석을 중심으로

People-First Politics in Kim Jong-un's Speeches: A Focus on Strategies of Legitimation in discourse

본 연구는 비판적 담화분석(Critical Discourse Analysis, CDA)을 통해 김정은 연설의 담론적 패턴이 시간의 흐름에 따라 어떻게 변화하는지, 김정은이 애민정치를 정당화하기 위해 어떠한 담론 요소들을 활용하는지 규명한다. 이를 위해 첫째, 김정은 시대 10여 년간 전문이 공개된 김정은 연설을 수집하여, 권력 공고화 과정에 따라 발전한 애민정치 수사의 변화 양상을 추적하였다. 둘째, van Leeuwen(2007)과 Reyes(2011)의 정당화 이론을 적용하여 김정은의 애민정치에 활용되는 담론의 정당화 전략을 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 김정은 연설은 ‘감정을 통한 이분법적 개념화’, ‘도덕적 평가’, ‘합리화’, ‘이타주의적 서사’라는 네 가지 주요 전략이 두드려졌다. 이러한 담론 전략은 김정은의 권위와 체제의 정당성을 강화하고 체제의 지속 가능성을 보장하는 핵심 수단으로 작용하고 있다. 본 연구는 김정은이 애민정치를 표방하는 과정에서 나타난 담론적 특성을 이해하고, 연설문 분석을 통한 정치적 정당화 연구에 이론적 및 실증적 시사점을 제공한다.

This study employs Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) to investigate the evolution of discursive patterns in Kim Jong Un's speeches, with a particular focus on the rhetorical strategies utilized to legitimate his “people-first politics.” The research begins by compiling a decade of Kim Jong Un’s speeches, delivering a systematic analysis of the evolution and shifts in this rhetoric in alignment with the trajectory of his political consolidation. Subsequently, it investigates the strategies deployed to legitimize this rhetoric, drawing on the theoretical frameworks of van Leeuwen (2007) and Reyes (2011). The analysis identifies four key strategies: ‘binary conceptualization through emotion,’ ‘moral evaluation,’ ‘rationalization,’ and ‘altruistic narratives.’ These rhetorical devices are instrumental in reinforcing Kim Jong Un's authority and legitimizing his regime, thereby ensuring its long-term stability. This research illuminates the discursive characteristics underlying the promotion of “people-first politics” and provides both theoretical and empirical contributions to the study of political legitimization through discourse analysis.
