나당전쟁기 고구려 백수성의 위치에 대하여

A Study on the Location of Baeksu-seong in Goguryeo during the Silla-Tang War

672년에 발생한 石門 전투는 나당전쟁 전반부의 최대 변곡점이었다. 이러한 석문 전투 발생 직전에 신라군과 고구려부흥군이 연합하여 당군과 싸운 전투가 바로 白水城 전투이다. 하지만 석문과 달리 백수성은 그 위치가 명확하지 않다. 백수성의 위치는 크게 재령강 유역과 예성강 유역으로 보는 학설이 제시되어 있다. 서흥강의 발원지가 泉谷이라는 점, 서흥강의 조선시대 명칭이 龍泉이라는 점, 서흥강 일대에 샘이나 우물이 집중 분포하는 점 등을 감안하면 서흥강의 원래 이름은 泉水 혹은 泉江이었을 것이다. 그렇다면 사료들에 보이는 백수성·白水山·泉山 등은 모두 서흥강 일대를 이르는 말이라 할 수 있다. 석문 전투가 발생한 곳이 운마산 아래쪽이라는 점, 당군의 남하 목표가 재령 일대로 예상되는 점, 백수성·백수산·천산 등의 용어가 서흥강에서 유래하는 점 등을 감안하면 백수성은 봉산 지역에 위치했을 가능성이 크다. 봉산의 古城으로 鵂鶹城과 古唐城이 확인되는데, 그 가운데 서흥강의 河中島에 위치한 고당성이 백수성으로 추정된다.

The Seokmun(石門) battle took place in 672, the biggest change in the early days of the Silla-Tang war(羅唐戰爭). The Seokmun battle just before the occurrence of the Baeksu-seong(白水城) battle took place. It was a battle that Silla(新羅) army and Goguryeo(高句麗) revival army united and fought against the Tang(唐). However, unlike the Seokmun, the location of the Baeksu-seong is not clear. A theory was suggested that the location of the Baeksu-seong is the basin of River Jaeryeong(載寧江) and the basin of River Yeseong(禮成江). The origin of River Seoheung(瑞興江) is Cheon-gok(泉谷), and the name of the Joseon Dynasty of River Seoheung is Yong-cheon(龍泉). And springs and wells are concentrated around River Seoheung. Given these points, the original name of River Seoheung would have been Cheon-gang(泉江). All of the Baeksu-seong(白水城), Baeksu-san(白水山), Cheon-san(泉山), etc. seen in the historical data refer to River Seoheung. It is highly likely that the Baeksu-seong was located in the Bongsan(鳳山) area of the Hwanghae-do(黃海道). The old fortresses in the Bongsan area include Hyuryu-seong(鵂鶹城) and Godang-seong(古唐城), of which Godang-seong, is estimated to be the Baeksu-seong.
