An Analysis of the Ex-post Social Welfare Effects of Aquacultural Outlook Project in Korea

The purpose of this study is to analyze the ex-post economic achievement of the aquacultural outlook project in Korea. For this purpose, this study evaluates the extent to which inefficiencies in each marine product market decreased, by using traditional cobweb model. The results show that the inefficiencies in the markets for laver, seaweed, olive flounder, sea bass, oyster and trout have decreased after the implement of aquacultural outlook project in 2023. Despite the importance of the aquacultural outlook project, research on methodologies for evaluating its economic achievements has mostly focused on analyzing ex-ante effects. In this regard, this study proposes a methodology for measuring ex-post effects, which allows us to analyze more accurate economic achievements. Nevertheless, our approach is limited in that it cannot control for other factors besides prices that might affect the decrease of inefficiencies in each market.
