Current Status and Development Strategies for the Liberal Arts Degree System: A Case Study of N University

This study aims to analyze the current status and student perceptions of the liberal arts degree system at N University, designed to enhance the competencies required in the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and to propose improvements based on its outcomes. The research investigated the design and operational framework of N University's liberal arts degree system and conducted a survey of 120 students. The survey focused on understanding, satisfaction, and the perceived impact of the liberal arts degree system on employability. The collected data were statistically analyzed using SPSS. The results revealed that the liberal arts degree system positively contributes to students' self-directed learning and employability enhancement. Notably, lower-year students exhibited high expectations and satisfaction with the system, while upper-year students showed lower satisfaction due to a lack of practical support and limitations in academic advising. Differences in perceptions across academic years highlighted the need for a more structured system and enhanced learning support. This study proposes several improvements for the liberal arts degree system: (1) establishing a tailored learning support system aligned with students’ career and academic goals, (2) strengthening systematic academic advising, and (3) implementing strategic promotion to effectively convey the value of the system to university members. These improvements are expected to significantly enhance the liberal arts degree system’s contribution to students’ interdisciplinary competencies and employability.
