The purpose of this study is to explore the experiences of five married immigrant women who currently provide medical interpreting support at a family center, and to explore the meaning of their experiences. The main findings of this study are as follows. First, medical interpreting by married immigrant women is performed by accompanied interpreting and telephone interpreting at the request of migrant women and hospital officials. Second, the interpreter volunteers have high self-esteem, self-worth, and a sense of accomplishment through their medical interpreting activities. Third, immigrant women interpreters face wage discrimination compared to their native-born colleagues. Policy recommendations based on these findings are as follows. First, the wage system should be improved to include an hourly wage for married immigrant women interpreters. Second, training programs and practical job competency workshops should be held to strengthen the professionalism of interpreters. Third, it is necessary to establish a network of interpreter support in the community for the stable settlement and social integration of migrants. Finally, it is necessary to conduct follow-up research by expanding the number of participants and utilizing quantitative research methods such as surveys.
