This study investigated the regional characteristics and foreign population status of Gwangsan-gu in Gwangju Metropolitan City to find direction for specialized policies required by foreign residents, focusing on Gwangsan-gu. As a result, the total number of foreign residents in Gwangsan-gu is 25,108, making it a residential area with a high concentration of foreign residents, accounting for 56.9% of Gwangju City. The majority of foreign residents in Gwangsan-gu were Vietnamese at 18.8%, and the proportion of young people in their 20s and 30s(59.6%) was high. Among the types of foreigners, foreign workers accounted for 16.3%, foreign nationals 15.7%, and international students 12.1%. Among children of foreign residents, children of kindergarten or elementary school age accounted for the largest share at 79.7% among those born in Korea. These results will be used as basic data for setting the direction for developing specialized community-integrated policies to protect human rights and establish systems for foreign residents in Gwangsan-gu.
