A Study on the Response Systems for In-Flight Disturbances and the Role of Cabin Crew in South Korean Airlines

This study examines the response systems for managing in-flight disturbances in South Korean airlines, aiming to identify systemic limitations and propose effective improvements. Through case analysis and literature review, it explores incidents such as alcohol-induced misconduct, smoking, verbal abuse, and harassment, highlighting challenges faced by cabin crew. Findings reveal that structural constraints and a service-oriented culture often hinder assertive action, as concerns over customer complaints and performance evaluations undermine effective responses. Recommendations include enhanced training programs, increased inclusion of male cabin crew, and clearer policies, especially for alcohol-related issues. The study concludes that strengthening legal and institutional frameworks is essential to empower cabin crew and ensure safer in-flight environments.
