노원지역은 1907년 정미의병기 경기 동북 지역 의병전쟁의 중심지였다. 특히, 서울로 진격해 들어가는 요충지였으며, 군자금 및 군수물자를 모집하여 의병부대를 재정비할 수 있는 지역이었다. 이와 같이 노원지역이 의병전쟁의 거점지가 될 수 있었던 것은 노원역, 누원점 등 역원을 배경으로 하는 노원지역의사회경제적 배경도 원인이었다. 노원역은 병조에서 관할하던 역이면서 함경도로 나아가는 길목에 있는 역이었다. 따라서 역마(驛馬)의 사육이 중요했고, 이에 따라 말굽의 징을 만드는 주물업이 형성될 수 있었다. 이는 의병들이 노원지역에서 무기를 수리하거나 제조할 수 있다는 것을 의미한다. 또한 노원역, 누원점은 상업 활동의 중심지였기에 물산과 정보가 모이는 곳이었다. 의병들이 정보를 구하고 군자금 및 군수물자를 모집하기에 용이했다. 그렇기 때문에 의병들이노원지역으로 모여들었던 것이다. 또한 노원지역은 수락산, 불암산 등 산악 지형이 발달해 유격전에 유리했고, 사찰이 있어 의병부대가 집결할 수 있는 공간이 있었다. 이는 의병부대가 노원지역을 근거지로 활용하기에 유리한 조건이었다. 따라서 13도창의군의 서울진공작전이 실패한 후 노원지역은 의병들이 모여드는 곳이 되었다. 대표적으로노원지역에서 활동한 의병부대는 이은찬 의병부대, 강기동 의병부대 등이었다. 노원지역은 노원역과 누원점 등을 배경으로 교통·상업의 중심지였다는 점, 말굽 징을 만들기 위한 주물업이 형성되었다는 점, 불암산이나 수락산 등 산악지대를 이용해 유격전을 전개할 수 있다는 점, 군자금 및 군수물자를 모집하기용이했다는 점 등으로 경기 동북 지역 의병전쟁의 주요한 거점지가 되었다.

The Nowon area was a central location for the righteous army (Uibyeong) warfare in the northeastern Gyeonggi region during the Jeongmi Righteous Army Movement in 1907. In particular, it served as a strategic point for advancing into Seoul and was a hub for raising military funds and procuring supplies to reorganize the righteous army units. The reason Nowon could serve as a base for the righteous army was due to its socioeconomic background, supported by transportation hubs like nowonyeog(蘆原驛) and nuwonjeom(樓院店). nowonyeog(蘆原驛), governed by the Ministry of Military Affairs(兵曹), was a critical waypoint on the road to hamgyeongdo(咸鏡道). As a result, horse breeding was important in this area, which led to the development of the iron forging industry for making horseshoe nails. This industry enabled the righteous army to repair and manufacture weapons. Furthermore, nowonyeog(蘆原驛) and nuwonjeom(樓院店) were central hubs of commerce, making them places where goods and information converged. These conditions made it easier for the righteous army to gather intelligence, secure military funds, and procure supplies, leading to an influx of righteous army forces into the Nowon area. Additionally, the mountainous terrain of Suraksan and Buramsan in the Nowon area was advantageous for guerrilla warfare. The presence of temples provided spaces where the righteous army could gather and operate. These factors made the Nowon area a favorable base for the righteous army. After the failure of the 13-province Changeuigun’s the Seoul advancing operation, the Nowon area became a rallying point for the righteous army. Notable righteous army units active in the Nowon area included those led by Lee Eunchan and Kang Gidong. In summary, the Nowon area became a major base for the righteous army’s warfare in the northeastern Gyeonggi region due to its significance as a transportation and commercial hub supported by nowonyeog(蘆原驛) and nuwonjeom(樓院店), the development of the iron forging industry for horseshoe nails, the advantageous mountainous terrain of Buramsan and Suraksan for guerrilla warfare, and its accessibility for raising military funds and procuring supplies.
