시리아 난민 통합을 위한 튀르키예의 언어교육 정책 연구: 현황과 개선 과제

A Study on Türkiye's Language Education Policy for the Integration of Syrian Refugees: Current Status and Challenges for Improvement

This study examines Türkiye's language education policies aimed at promoting social integration and educational inclusion for Syrian refugees, focusing on academic trends in Korea and the PIKTES (Promoting Inclusive Education for Kids in the Turkish Education System) project in Türkiye. PIKTES, launched in 2016 with EU funding, is a key initiative for refugee integration, offering language education and facilitating access to public education for refugee children. The study categorizes and analyzes approximately 20 master’s theses under three themes: teaching and learning methodologies, cultural and value education, and the experiences of teachers and learners. It evaluates curricula, textbooks, teaching strategies, and interlanguage development while exploring learners’ linguistic errors and cultural factors influencing educational outcomes. The findings highlight the impact of Türkiye's policies on the social integration, psychological well-being, and academic performance of refugee children and adults. Proposed improvements include developing multicultural curricula, enhancing teacher training, creating digital learning resources, and expanding emotional support programs. The study also evaluates the effectiveness and limitations of hybrid education models, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. This research offers policy recommendations applicable to other refugee-hosting nations, including South Korea, emphasizing language education as a vital tool for fostering sustainable social integration and self-reliance among refugees.
