칼빈 신학 다시 읽기를 위한 제언으로서의 존 칼빈의 신학구조에 관한 고찰: 『기독교 강요』와 “그리스도와의 연합 사상”을 중심으로

A Study on John Calvin’s Theological Structure as a Suggestion for Re-reading His Theology: Focusing on Institutes of the Christian Religion and “ Union with Christ” Thought

그동안 칼빈신학계 안에서 칼빈의 신학구조와 신학원리를 다룬 연구들은 종종 발표되었다. 그러나 상대적으로 우리 신자와 “그리스도와의 연합” 사상 또는 ‘삼위일체 하나님과의 연합’ 사상 관점으로 칼빈 신학을 분석한 연구는 찾아보기가 쉽지 않다. 칼빈의 『기독교 강요』구조를 분석해 보면 ‘각 권의 내용들’과 그 안에서 그“연합” 사상이 다루어지고 있는 ‘범위와 빈도수’ 간에 상호연관성이 있음을 인식하게 된다. 구체적으로 칼빈의 『기독교 강요』구조는 ‘삼위일체 하나님과 우리라는 보다 긴밀한 상호관계적 이중 구조’로 구성되었고, 그것은 그 “연합” 사상과도 연관성을 가지고 있다. 그런 관점에서 본 논고의 목적은 칼빈 신학의 또 다른 연구 방법 제안을 위해 『기독교 강요』내의 ‘우리 신자와 그리스도와의 연합 사상’ 또는 ‘삼위일체 하나님과의 연합 사상’의 신학적 위치와 역할에 대한 이해를 제공하는 것에 있다. 그 결과 칼빈 신학 연구를 위한 그 “연합” 사상의 중요성, 그것의 중대한 신학적 역할, 그리고 그것의 신학적 의미에 대한 재평가도 이루어질 것으로 기대한다.

Studies on Calvin’s theological structure and theological principles have been frequently published within the Calvinist theological community. However, it is relatively difficult to find studies that analyze Calvin’s theology from the perspective of our believers and “union with Christ” or ‘union with the Triune God’ thought. Analyzing the structure of Calvin’s Institutes of the Christian Religion allows us to recognize that there is a correlation between the contents of Institutes and the scope and frequency in which the “union” thought is addressed. Specifically, the structure of Calvin’s Institutes of the Christian Religion is composed of ‘a more intimate, inter-relational dual structure of the Triune God and us,’ and this is also related to the “union” thought. From that perspective, the purpose of this article is to provide an understanding of the theological position and role of ‘the union between our believers and Christ’ thought or ‘the union with the Trinity’ thought in the Institutes of the Christian Religion in order to suggest another research method for Calvin’s theology. As a result, it is expected that the importance of the “union” thought for the study of Calvin’s theology, its significant theological role, and its theological meaning will be re-evaluated.
