The Structure of Idafa in Arabic: An Advanced Analytical Approach for Understanding and Analysis for the Benefit of Arabic Language Teachers of Arabic as a Second Language

The Idhafa construction is crucial in Arabic but challenging for learners, particularly in unvocalized writing. This study presents an advanced analysis to aid educators in understanding and teaching Idhafa. The structure is divided into three components: the head, the stuffing, and the base. The head determines gender, number, and case agreement, essential for verbs and adjectives. The base is typically a definite entity, while the stuffing (الحشو), if present, is placed in the middle. Only the base can have tanween and the nun markers for dual and masculine plural forms. This research provides educators with a theoretical framework to enhance teaching and facilitate student understanding of the Idhafa structure.
