『조선왕조실록』에 나타난 작설차와 조선 차 문화에 관한 고찰

Analysis of Jakseolcha and Joseon Tea Culture Reflected in the Veritable Records of the Joseon Dynasty

『조선왕조실록』은 조선의 역사적 사실을 기록한 가장 중요한 조선의 공식 국가 기록이다. 『조선왕조실록』 온라인 사이트에 작설차를 검색한 결과, 태종 2년(1402)부터 인조 14년(1636)까지 총 40건의 국역 기록을찾을 수 있었다. 주로 조선 전기의 기록이다. 지역 특산물에 관한 『세종실록지리지』의 22건을 제외하면 작설차에 관한 실질적 내용은 18건이었다. 중국 사신에게 전해진 예물, 금나라에 보내진 공납품, 일본행 조선 통신사의반전과 음다 풍습으로 내용을 분류할 수 있었다. 중국 사신이 작설차를 요구하거나 조선 다기를 요구한 기록이있으며 적지 않은 양이 중국과 일본으로 보내졌다. 작설차에 관한 기록은 인조 14년 (1636)년 이후에는 찾기가어렵다, 하지만 조선 후기에 『승정원일기』와 『조선왕조의궤』에 작설차의 사용을 찾을 수 있다. 인삼차에 관한기록은 선조 31년(1598)부터 순조 21년(1821)까지 총 17건을 찾을 수 있었다. 주로 조선 후기의 기록이다. 인삼차의 기록은 의녀, 약방, 약원을 포함하는 경우가 많아 차라는 개념보다는 약용으로 주로 사용되었던 것으로 나타났다. 차 문화가 쇠퇴했다고 여겨지는 조선시대에도 중국과 일본과의 외교 활동에서 조선 차와 다기는 중요한 위치를 차지하였으며 높은 수준이었던 것으로 나타났다. 우리의 차와 차문화에 대한 새로운 인식이 필요한시점이다.

The Veritable Records of the Joseon Dynasty is the most important document of the Joseon Dynasty and contains official court records of the period. This study examines the use of Jakseolcha and Ginsengcha teas during the Joseon dynasty. Eighteen ‘Jakseolcha’ references were discovered in the Veritable Records of the Joseon Dynasty from the second year of King Taejong (1402) to the fourteenth year of King Injo (1636). Jakseolcha is referenced as an indigenous product, a gift to a Chinese envoy, a tribute to China, a traveling allowance for the Joseon diplomatic mission to Japan, and a Joseon custom. Chinese envoys often requested Jakseolcha and Joseon teas from the Joseon court, and Jakseolcha appears to be of high quality based on demands from Chinese envoys. A considerable amount of Jakseolcha was sent abroad to China and Japan. References to Jakseolcha disappeared after 1636, and Ginsengcha appeared to take its place. Nonetheless, other court documents show the continued use of Jakseolcha for tea ceremonies and royal banquets, whereas Ginsengcha was largely used by kings and the royal court for its medicinal effect. Diplomatic activities with China and Japan during the Joseon period maintained the importance and quality of Jakseolcha.
