Content Analysis of Nursing Students Perceptions of the Effectiveness and Ethical Issues of AI-Based Elderly Care Services

Purpose: This study aims to systematically analyze the effectiveness and ethical issues of AI-based elderly care services, propose an innovative nursing service model required in an aging society, and contribute to improving the quality of life of the elderly and the sustainability of nursing services. Methods: The study targeted 120 students in their 3rd to 4th year of nursing majors from four nursing colleges located in the Seoul and Gyeonggi areas. A descriptive study using content analysis was conducted from December 10 to December 30, 2024, to explore the effectiveness and ethical issues of AI-based elderly care services. Results: Awareness of AI-based elderly care services was 58.0%, with the main sources of information being the internet and social media. Expectations for improving quality of life were 86.0%. Main concerns included issues regarding personal data protection and responsibility, while 68.0% expressed willingness to use the service. Strengths such as 24-hour care and emergency response were evaluated positively, but concerns about practicality, reliability, and cost were also noted. Conclusion: To expand AI-based elderly care services, ethical issues such as personal data protection and responsibility must be addressed, and improving accessibility for digital vulnerable groups emerged as an important task. With the future development of AI technology and policy support, a more reliable and efficient elderly care system needs to be established
