A Study on the Effectiveness of Humanities Weekly Events and the Improvement of Regional Attachment

(Purpose) The purpose of this study is to verify the effectiveness of the 2024 Humanities Week event, titled “Building a Community Together in Uijeongbu”, by thoroughly examining its impact on fostering a sense of community and regional attachment. Additionally, it aims to explore actionable strategies to strengthen regional attachment through cultural engagement by systematically evaluating participants' experiences, satisfaction levels, and the overall success of the event. (Design/methodology/approach) A survey targeting attendees of the Shinhan University Humanities Urban Support Project and Uijeongbu Cultural Foundation event (October 28-November 2, 2024) was conducted to analyze the event's impact on participants' satisfaction and regional attachment, focusing on its broader implications for cultural policy. The analysis utilized various methods, including frequency analysis, meta-analysis, IPA, and multiple regression analysis, to provide comprehensive insights. (Findings) The findings reveal that the Humanities Week event significantly contributed to enhancing regional attachment, particularly through immersive participation and diverse cultural activities. Key factors influencing regional attachment included participants’ engagement levels, the diversity of lectures and experiential activities, and overall event experiences. However, areas such as promotion, accessibility, and tailored content require improvement to maximize the event's inclusiveness and reach. (Research implications or Originality) This study highlights the potential of cultural events to foster community identity and social cohesion, emphasizing their significance in uniting diverse groups and strengthening local networks. Academically, it validates the role of participation-driven programs in enhancing regional attachment and contributing to a deeper understanding of community dynamics. Practically, it suggests improving immersive program offerings, accessibility, and targeted promotions to ensure broader participation and sustained community impact.
