(Purpose) This study empirically analyzes the impact of the perception of regional extinction risk on residents' intention to continue living in areas classified as high-risk for regional extinction, with a particular focus on the mediating effect of regional satisfaction. (Design/Methodology/Approach) The data for this study was collected through a questionnaire survey, and IBM SPSS Statistics 27.0 was used as a tool for data analysis. The analysis method is as follows. First, frequencies and proportions were calculated to examine the general demographic characteristics of the respondents. Second, descriptive statistics were calculated to understand the distribution of community endangerment awareness, community satisfaction, and continued residence. Third, the PROCESS macro 4.3 of Hayes(2013) was utilized to test the mediating effect of regional satisfaction on the relationship between perceived risk of community extinction and intention to continue living. (Findings) The analysis reveals that as the perception of regional extinction risk increases, residents' intention to remain in their current location significantly decreases, with regional satisfaction playing a crucial mediating role in this relationship. Specifically, it was confirmed that the perception of regional extinction risk negatively affects residents' regional satisfaction, which in turn negatively impacts their intention to continue living in the area. Notably, this study provides empirical evidence that even in the face of regional extinction risk, higher levels of regional satisfaction among residents can sustain their intention to remain. (Research implications or Originality) These findings suggest that in addressing population decline and building sustainable communities, local governments must prioritize not only economic support and infrastructure improvements but also policies that enhance residents' satisfaction with their region. Moreover, this study offers important policy implications applicable to other local governments with similar regional characteristics and highlights the need for comparative studies across diverse regional contexts to derive generalized conclusions.
