The purpose of this study is to examine the patterns of writing strategies used by learners looking to improve their English writing skills. In addition, the study aims to explore how learners perceive their English writing classes obtain educational implications by examining the responses to a questionnaire on the use of writing strategies and learners’ perceptions of the use of translation tools and Generative AI in English writing classes. The results are based on responses from 56 Korean EFL learners to a questionnaire on writing strategies. It was found that cognitive strategies are the most frequently used by learners. The use of various translation tools and Generative AI is highly efficient and easy, but concerns about ethical issues and reduced thinking ability also appeared. Accordingly, it was found that educational guidance on meta-cognitive strategies according to learner level, writing purpose, and type is required, along with ethical guidelines for the use of translation tools and generative AI.
