전국 중·고등학생 영어듣기능력평가 지문 길이의 타당도 분석 연구

Validation study on the length of listening comprehension passages in the Nationwide English Listening Proficiency

This study investigates the ideal length of listening comprehension passages for Korean middle and high school students. To gather essential data, prior research and relevant theories were reviewed, which helped refine the research focus and ensure the study’s validity and efficiency. The optimal passage lengths were then determined by comparing and analyzing passages from different English listening assessments. This included a review of all six grades of the Nationwide English Listening Proficiency Test, along with other assessments taken by Korean EFL learners, such as the National Assessment of Educational Achievement, the National United Achievement Test, the College Scholastic Ability Test, and its associated mock tests. Finally, experts in English education confirmed the passage lengths through a review process. The results indicate that passage length gradually increases with each grade, demonstrating that the Nationwide English Listening Proficiency Test has maintained consistent passage length progression across grades. These findings offer insights into optimizing passage lengths for different proficiency levels, which could inform future test design and curriculum development for English listening skills.
