초록
Objectives : This study examines the pathology of allergic rhinitis based on the three major symptoms, sneezing, clear mucus, and congestion from a Korean Medical perspective, with aims to suggest key pathology. Methods : General medical texts such as the Donguibogam, Yixuerumen, Jingyuequanshu were examined under 'penti[噴嚔]', 'biqiu[鼻鼽]', 'bise[鼻塞]'. Based on various other medical texts, discussion on pathology was furthered, and contemporary medical research results were examined from a Korean Medical perspective. Results : The acute phase and chronic phase of allergic rhinitis is linked to Wind-Cold and Lung Fire, respectively. The disease mostly originates from Lung Fire. From a seasonal perspective, Wind-Cold rhinitis is that which becomes severe in the winter, while Lung Fire rhinitis matches with perennial allergic rhinitis. Conclusions : Lung Fire is produced by Stomach Fire caused by high energy food intake, and Heart Fire caused by emotional stress. For treatment, awareness of food hygiene and stress management is crucial. Allergic rhinitis must be approached not only as a physical condition but as a psychosomatic condition that involves emotional aspects.
