한국의 시도별 세대 간 소득이동성: 국민건강보험빅데이터를 이용한 분석

Intergenerational Income Mobility by Province in Korea: An Analysis Using National Health Insurance Big Data

본 연구는 건강보험빅데이터를 이용하여 세대 간 소득이동성의 지역적 차이를 분석하고 이를 통해 기회불평등에 대한 대중의 인식이 악화된 원인에 대한 이해를 시도하고 있다. 구체적으로 부모의 소득분위와 자녀의 소득분위에 대한 회귀분석을 통해 상대적 소득이동성을 산출하고 하위 소득 25% 가정의 자녀 세대가 사회진출 후 얻은 소득분위의 평균을 이용하여 절대적 소득이동성을 계산하였다. 또한 소득이동성의 지역차이를 가져오는 원인을 알아내기 위한 예비적 분석으로 소득불평등과 공간분리지수 등 지역특성과의 상관관계를 살펴보았다. 분석결과, 전국적인 수준에서의 세대 간 소득이동성은 시간에 따른 변화가 적고 건강보험의 가입자 타입에 따른 차이도 크지 않았다. 특히 상대적 소득이동성은 그 값의 절대적 수준이 큰 편이 아니었다. 반면에 지역별 세대 간 소득이동성은 주로 서울, 경기 대구, 대전 등 대도시 지역이 좋지 않음을 알 수 있었다. 또한 지역특성과의 상관분석 결과 소득불평등이나 공간분리가 심한 지역일수록 상대적 소득이동성이 좋지 않았고 절대적 소득이동성의 경우 또한 유사한 양상을 보이지만 통계적으로는 유의하지는 않았다.

This study analyzes regional differences in intergenerational income mobility using National Health Insurance big data, aiming to understand the causes of the worsening public perception of opportunity inequality. Specifically, the study calculates relative income mobility through regression analysis of income percentile of parents' and children's, and absolute income mobility using the average income percentile of children from the bottom 25% of income households. Additionally, as a preliminary analysis to identify the causes of regional differences in income mobility, the study examines correlations between income mobility and regional characteristics such as income inequality, spatial segregation index. The analysis found that, at the national level, intergenerational income mobility showed little change over time, and there was not much difference based on the type of health insurance subscriber. In particular, the absolute level of relative income mobility was not very high. However, intergenerational income mobility by region was found to be particularly poor in large cities such as Seoul, Gyeonggi, Daegu, and Daejeon. Moreover, the correlation analysis with regional characteristics showed that regions with higher income inequality and greater spatial segregation tended to have lower relative income mobility. For absolute income mobility, similar trends were observed, but statistically, the findings were not significant.
