제2이사야는 바빌론 유배 상황 속에서 실의에 빠진 유배 공동체를 향해 희망의 메시지를 선포한다. 본 발제문이 주목하는 그의 선포는 “새로운 일”(이사 43,19)에 관한 것이다. 흥미로운 부분은, 새로운 일이 “예전의 일들”과 “옛날의 일들”에 대한 기억과 생각의 금지 명령(43,18)과 함께 선포되어, 마치, 과거 하느님의 구원 행위는 의미 없는 역사였으며, 앞으로 시작될 새로운 일만이 중요하다는 인식을 제공하는 듯하다. 이렇듯이, 얼핏 보면 두 구절(43,18-19)은 서로 충돌하는 내용처럼 보이지만, 이것은 충돌이 아니라 제2이사야의 신학적 기획의 반영으로 이해된다. 왜냐하면, 그 안에 제2이사야가 지닌 유배 공동체에 대한 냉철한 인식이 담겨 있기 때문이다. 제2이사야는 이를 바탕으로 공동체의 상황을 진단하고, 처방을 내리는 신학적 설계를 제시한다. 그는 하느님의 손길만을 맹목적으로 기대하는 공동체의 양상과 하느님을 불신하는 공동체 모두를 향해 하느님의 창조적 능력을 바탕으로 전개되는 구원을 선포한다. 그 절정의 자리에 “새로운 일”이 자리하고 있다.

The Second Isaiah proclaims a message of hope to a disillusioned exiled community during the Babylonian exile. His proclamation, which is the focus of this paper, is about “something new” (Isa 43,19). Interestingly, the proclamation of “something new” is accompanied by an injunction to not think about “the events of the past” and “the things of long ago” (43,18), as if to assert that God’s past works of salvation were irrelevant and that only what is to come matters. Thus, at first glance, the two passages (43,18-19) appear to be in contrast with each other, but this is a reflection of Second Isaiah's theological design since in them lies Second Isaiah’s firm understanding of the exiled community. Based on this, the Second Isaiah offers a theological design that diagnoses the community’s situation and offers a solution. He proclaims salvation that unfolds through God’s creative power, both for those who blindly wait for God’s help and for those that distrust Him. It is in this culmination where “something new” lies.
