Glyoxylic Acid와 Alkyl Glyoxylate Acetal Form의 화학적 특성 및 생물학적 활성에 관한 고찰

Review on the Chemical Properties and Biological Activities of Glyoxylic Acid and Alkyl Glyoxylate Acetal Form

DOI : 10.17480/psk.2025.69.1.16

Glyoxylic acid is the simplest α-oxocarboxylic acid (OHC-COOH) containing both an aldehyde and a carboxyl group. Due to its highly reactive aldehyde group, glyoxylic acid can be transformed into various forms such as dihydroxyacetic acid (hydrate form), linear dimer, hemiacetal dimer, alkyl glyoxylate hemiacetal and acetal forms. Glyoxylic acid serves as an intermediate in the glyoxylate cycle process in microorganisms and plants, and can also be produced in the human body. Currently, glyoxylic acid is widely used as a building block in the synthesis of various pharmaceuticals and their intermediates. The syntheses of glyoxylic acid from several kinds of starting materials have been described. Although glyoxylic acid hemiacetal and acetal forms have not received much attention for industrial uses, they are already recognized as valuable intermediates in organic synthesis. Further research on glyoxylic acid and alkyl glyoxylate acetal forms may be required for advanced applications in a wide range of industries.
